2—Value and supply chains, operations, the takeaways
Value chains—One of the hardest challenges of a company willing to become sustainable is staying true to its vision while also dealing with complex tradeoffs and opportunities that come along the way. Many leaders remain stuck with their market compromises but profoundly misunderstand that persistent, sustainable strategies are usually the ones that might help them grow and produce better at scale.
Supply chains—The pandemic has had a wide-ranging impact on economies worldwide, but online shopping has thrived as people are forced to buy from home. This raises another issue for retailers: keeping their shelves stocked while the transportation sector struggles with supply chains.
Operations—Companies with little or no risk-management experience tended to invest in new software tools, whereas organizations with higher maturity primarily focused on implementing new practices. Actions that were taken by companies varied according to the precrisis maturity of their supply-chain risk-management capabilities.
As energy prices rise, the transportation industry utilizes technology to reduce its environmental impact on the planet and pave the way for a more sustainable future.
What innovations will transform this traditionally difficult-to-abate industry, which isn't typically known for contributing to a carbon-free world, by 2022?
